Engineering Manager
Engineering Manager III Mentoring and sharing expertise managing individuals and leading the organization.

Summary

The Engineering Manager III is responsible for contributing to the success of a cross-functional software team. The software team works on one or more projects simultaneously, using different technologies to develop custom software applications for web, PC, mobile, and embedded systems.

The Engineering Manager III is expected to lead a team of engagement leaders and/or individual contributors, supporting the growth of their individual skills toward their long term career goals and helping to ensure that they effectively deliver on their commitments to new and existing customers.

The Engineering Manager III is part of the Management team and is expected to actively engage in and help to grow and develop the business. The Engineering Manager III is a senior-level people manager role that is mentored by senior management.

Responsibilities and Duties
Has substantial understanding of and experience executing on the serving leadership principles of creating, growing, and maintaining a healthy organization
Advocates for and adheres to the company Vision, Mission, and Culture statements
Supports quarterly business meetings by providing input for projects and goals
Provides components, tools, and materials to support the team delivering cost-effective and quality output

Performs with mastery:
Conduct regularly scheduled one-on-ones discussions with team members Provide yearly performance reviews for direct reports
Support an ongoing recruiting process for all of IQ through resume pre-screening and interviews

Performs with little to no guidance or oversight, approaching mastery:
Build and grow a strong software development team
Embrace employee development and engagement for all team members
Schedule, budget, and resource plan across multiple teams and/or projects
Provide oversight and guidance for projects to ensure success and customer satisfaction Help to set priorities for project team work Work with team members to keep meetings and people on task
Help remove obstacles and barriers to success
Ensure a high quality of work is delivered Creation of, understanding of, and reporting on departmental strategies, metrics, and objectives

Performs with occasional guidance and oversight:
Work to keep morale high for all team members
Ensure team adopts and adheres to best practice software development lifecycle
Guide continuous process improvement efforts
Lead and coordinate project proposal creation and continuous improvement of the proposal generation process

Performs with significant guidance and oversight:
Define and implement a multi-year strategy and yearly business goals for their team
Engage in and support the growth of the company Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or scientific discipline or related experience
15+ years of experience in software development, test, project management, or engineering management role
7+ years of experience in a management role or related experience

Demonstrated leadership skills Demonstrated extensive experience with:
Working with different software development lifecycle methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Iterative)

Working with at least one type of software development project:
embedded, web, desktop application
Mentoring and developing others

Demonstrated extensive experience with:
Communicating at different levels of an organization Promoting ongoing positive working relationships with staff and customers
Effectively multi-tasking between disparate work types
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills, sound judgment, professionalism, honesty, and good decision making skills
Has excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Demonstrated strength in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
